Eucharistic Procession in Chicago?
Sign me up!

The Newman Center at the University of Illinois Chicago did it again. A Eucharistic Procession on campus that attracted not only students, but many others as well.

We began with Holy Mass, celebrated by Father Tim. As he said in his homily, we need to bring Our Lord Jesus Christ to the people—to public spaces. It’s not about whether we “feel like it.”

Sometimes it is hard to witness in the world.
In a world that does not know God.

But how will they come to know Him?

Only through us.

We are called to go out and live as good Christians. Even if we do not preach, we can live as Christ did—and in that way, we bring Him to the people.

A procession around campus.
The canopy blown by the wind.
The smell of incense in the air.
The cross leading the way.

That’s how it’s done.

We ended with half an hour of Adoration in the center of the UIC campus—kneeling on the wet ground, with the Willis Tower in the background, drawing curious looks from students passing by.

And we knelt.
In silence.
In prayer.
In love with Christ.

I love photographing Eucharistic processions. Why?

Because it is the boldest action we can take as Catholics—and the most direct way to bring Christ to the people.

The Newman Center is doing it right!

St. John Henry Newman, pray for us.
St. John Paul II the Great, pray for us.
